About Us
South West Phoenix has a long and proud history of successfully competing in Football West’s Metropolitan State League Competitions.
Established in 2001 as South West Phoenix FC, The club's name came from a competition in the Bunbury-based newspaper The South-West Times. The club entered the WA State League Division 1 and finished 6th in their first season. The club's name was changed to the Bunbury Forum Force in 2010, due to sponsorship arrangements, and they then won their first Division 1 title the year after in 2011, the club was promoted to the WA Premier League for the 2012 season. In their two seasons in the Premier League they finished 9th and 7th, however they were not selected as one of the 12 initial teams in the newly formed National Premier Leagues WA for the 2014 season due to lack of facilities. In the 2015 season the club reverted to the name South West Phoenix FC after sponsorship arrangements expired.
As a State League Football club based in Bunbury, the state representative club of the South West region, the club offers the opportunity for talented South West players to compete at this high level without the need to relocate to the metropolitan area, this status is the acumen that enables the success of the club to continue.
We recognize that our continued success is based on developing better coaches, strengthening our elite junior player pathways and creating stronger links with the local community based football clubs.
In 2016 South West Phoenix entered into a new and exciting era as the club relocated into our new purpose built facilities at Hay Park South. 2016 was also an inaugural year for the Juniors, entering into the National Premier League, the elite junior players of the south west were afforded the opportunity to play at the highest level of football competition, this opportunity and support from the governing body of football in Western Australia -Football West, further strengthens our position in providing elite pathways for talented junior soccer players in the South West.
South West Phoenix is the only club outside the metropolitan area to obtain an NPL licence. All South West Phoenix FC junior teams are very competitive in this competition, with the South West Phoenix U13s NPL team coming running up in their first year in the league for 2016, this is a testament to the talent and dedication of coaches, players, and members of South West Phoenix FC, to travel during a home and away season against Perth based clubs.
